'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith renews contest with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the nail-biting dying seconds of Swansea's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles after the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative shot from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess quickly slammed home the rebound before racing off toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with the crowd congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory capped an incredible comeback given Swansea had trailed 2-0 midway through the second half. During the celebrations, there was some collateral damage. He shared, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're people, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win earned a fourth-round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with the attacker's first-time shot from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for having a go from that far out," commented Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right wing-back after Orient changed shape. That meant facing off against City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the opposition who complimented the way Orient attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," he explains. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they know how to control and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're all right and then abruptly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and focus just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a fans' favourite across a couple of years at Leyton Orient and has swiftly done the same in Wales. At Orient he reunited with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at his loan club from United. Then came a temporary move at lower division the Manchester club, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a slightly green going into senior level. I think many athletes would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without serious challenge. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that development for both domestically and internationally, excelling for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the last several matches, including both legs encounters against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Early Days

It has been a remarkable path for the kid from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who was raised observing his parent, Stuart, also a engine room operator, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's sole appearance for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to Astana, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was closed owing to the weather of bitter cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he recalls, grinning. "The days leading up, the academy prospects trained together, so that assisted our preparation. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "It was quite easy, because I reached the point where I knew I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I thought I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

New Environment

It is the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a small coach driven by academy staff, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself the Portuguese player, Ronald, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to socialize with the teammates but I'm aiming to be the following person to stop using the bus and on the road. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Supporter Connections

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on public transport after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
